From Small and Humble Beginnings
50 years ago, Cary had a population of around twenty thousand people. Today, it is around 187,000.
The town has undergone explosive changes over the last half century. Having a tradition survive for that long is no easy feat, and it’s all the more reason to celebrate the 50th Lazy Daze Arts & Crafts Festival, taking place on August 22 and 23!
The origins of the festival trace back to the local artist and legend, Jerry Miller. Jerry knew how art and community go hand in hand. Although he passed away in 2025, Lazy Daze has only gotten larger and continues to carry out his vision.
What to Expect and How to Be Prepared
For the 50th Lazy Daze, there will be over 250 artists from across the country participating. There will be food vendors, a beer garden, a children’s area, multiple live entertainment stages, and more!
There will be a lot going on, so we want you to make the most of the occasion!
The first thing to consider is how to get there. The Festival will consume the northern half of Downtown Cary and certain streets will be blocked.
One of the smoothest ways to get there is by shuttle, departing from South Hills Mall and Green Hope High School. Parking your car at one of those two locations will be a lot less stressful and the shuttles will start rolling around 8:30 am.
Another great option is the free GoCary! bus. The buses will be rolling all day during the event and are easy to track with the GoCary! app.
Of course, arriving via bike, rideshare, or being dropped off by a friend are all great options. Any way you can avoid having to look for parking will make it a much more pleasurable experience.
Another aspect to consider is that it’ll be late August, and it will likely feel that way in terms of heat. Stay hydrated, and bring a refillable water bottle. Sun protection is a good idea as well, with sunscreen and headwear. Maybe bring a small bag to carry your items and anything you might purchase during your time there.
