New Laotian Restaurant with Traditional Fare Opens in Downtown Cary

This week marked another wonderful milestone for downtown Cary. Just days before the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the Downtown Cary Park on November 19th, executive chef Lon Bounsanga of the famed Brewery Bhavana and Bida Manda establishments, opened the highly anticipated Saap restaurant on Wednesday. Saap is located on the first floor of the new Walker Apartment Complex on the corner of South Walker Street and Walnut Street, sharing a parking garage with the Cary Library and adjacent to the new Downtown Cary Park.

The main focus of the menu is going back to Lon’s roots and homeland. Dishes explore Laotian street food with small plates featuring char-grilled tiger shrimp, pork skewers, herb sausage, and chicken wings marinated in spicy honey. For larger portions, the menu features many curry based dishes and soups, along with braised pork belly, chef’s steak selection, and a rotating selection of North Carolina fish seasoned with traditional southeast Asian spices and cooked to perfection. Saap also features several wok prepared fares and traditional side dishes of snow pea tips and steamed bok choy.

With so much happening in Downtown Cary, the ever expanding food scene continues to diversify our food scene so there’s a flavor and dish for everyone. Saap is open Tuesday through Sunday from 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM, and you can grab a reservation through their website which links to the popular reservation website OpenTable. There are plans in the works to open for lunch hours at a later date.
