The lights started to shine bright during the Holiday Season across our downtown Cary streets and that has carried over into the New Year. Cary is hosting a series of light installations, visual art that brightens up the night sky, and we think all are a must-see!
We recently caught up with Denise Dickens, the Public Art Program and Exhibition Supervisor for TOC, she’s running point for GLOW, “a temporary outdoor display of light and technology art installations on view in downtown Cary.”
“Our goal is to keep the space in downtown Cary activated and to keep people moving around and coming back,” said Denise during a conversation before one of the GLOW events, Under the Silver Moon Lantern Parade.

“As these public art installations of light pop-up, even though we’re not saying exactly when they will pop-up because we’re providing a window of months to be on the lookout for it, we encourage all to come down and be surprised, delighted, and maybe even puzzled by it, but to ultimately enjoy it,” added Denise.
TOWN OF CARY: GLOW will create a dynamic sense of place that adds energy to the street environment, creating memories and moments of celebration for all that encounter the artworks. ASAP is an annual sculptural installation in downtown Cary along the Academy Street corridor. 2018/2019 theme was Music, Dance and Poetry. The current theme is GLOW, artworks that use light and technology as a key component of the visual experience. Cary Visual Art is a sponsor of this year’s ASAP GLOW. Artists were invited to submit proposals for this temporary exhibition and four have been initially selected to create light installations. Denise just hopes people come check it out, “Please keep coming back to downtown Cary and checking it out to see what’s new!”
