Serving Since 1957

On the corner of Chatham and Academy is a Downtown Cary mainstay that’s called that corner of town home since 1957, it’s Ashworth Drugs.

“Part of our goal is to appeal to the good old days and hit the nostalgia buttons that harken back to the days when everyone knew each other,” said Paul Ashworth.

You might remember when we caught up with Paul talking about sweet-treats available downtown.

The Ashworth family founded the local drugstore 65-years ago this week (week of April 18th) and they’re setting aside some special time this week to celebrate with the community. FoodCary.com has a really cool article about the beginning of Ashworth Drug back in ’57.

Remember those sweet treats? They are offering a special anniversary scoop to folks all week, just pop-in and ask for it.

The community knows Ashworth and they know the community too, but then again what would you expect after 65-years of service?

“We have a lot of regular customers who eat here every day, and have been doing so for 30, 40 years. But it’s also the place you can come in for the first time and see someone you know,” added Paul.

Not only does the drugstore have you covered for pharmacy needs, but their lunch counter always delivers, whether you’re in the need for a bite, a drink, or a sweat-treat. As for Paul’s go-to, he says he’s pretty predictable.

“I’m like a broken record, I get hot dogs on Monday, Wednesday and Saturdays and I get sandwiches on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.”

Swing by and say hi and “happy anniversary” to the folks at Ashworth this week. Thank you for serving our community since 1957!
