Q&A: Getting Lazy with Jenna from Cary

The annual art and entertainment festival known as Lazy Daze is back this weekend in Downtown Cary.

We caught up with Cary’s Festivals and Events Supervisor, Jenna Kostka, to get the inside scoop on this year’s event.

Q: Last year there was a really cool interactive pixel wall for event goers to participate in. Is there anything like that this year?

A: Last year, we featured a community art project which was a giant paint by number! Guests could paint a few squares each and watch as the image was revealed square by square over the course of the festival! We’re excited to bring that back this year with new designs to uncover over the two days of the event!

New this year, we are excited to add an interactive pixel wall called Pixel Patch Creative! This unique art installation will allow guests the ability to manipulate the oversized “pixels” and create their own designs!

Q: Where’s the farthest an artist or entertainer will be coming in from?

A: We are excited to welcome artists from across the country, with 15 states represented this year! The farthest artist will be joining us all the way from California! Of course we’re still very thrilled that 19 Cary artists will also be participating in the festival!

Q: What about Downtown Cary makes this such a special place to host this event?

The Lazy Daze arts and crafts festival is now in its 47th year and I think its enduring success can be attributed to its unique blend of art, culture, and community spirit.

The Cary Community has really embraced this annual opportunity to host such a fantastic event and welcome people from all over North Carolina and surrounding states to our Town! Lazy Daze has an amazing way of capturing the creativity within all of us, then you partner that with the togetherness and community bonding that makes it a timeless attraction in the perfect downtown setting.

Q: Are there any artist demonstrations that you’re looking forward to?

I have always been a huge fan of woodturning. It’s just so captivating the way they start with a chunk of wood and turn it into a masterpiece. It’s like they can see inside the wood to know what the outcome will be. It’s a blend of amazing artistry and little bit of magic ?

Q: If Jenna is shopping while at Lazy Daze, what is she looking for? And what’s your favorite Lazy Daze snack?

I buy all my Christmas presents at Lazy Daze! Every person on my list gets something that reminds me of them, from a cool set of coasters, to a personalized puzzle, to a gorgeous photograph,  or a Lazy Daze T-shirt, I can check off the whole list at Lazy Daze.

It’s so hard to choose favorite snack amongst the variety of food options, but this year, I will say that I am definitely making at pit stop at the Cheese Curd Shack for so deep fried goodness and will probably also have a some Boba Tea from Bobasaur to wash it all down!
