Kick-off Christmas and the Holidays this weekend in Downtown Cary

Many lights and Holiday displays are already up in Downtown Cary, but we officially kickoff Christmas on December 3rd with a bevy of activities.

The day of fun and celebration caps off with the official lighting of the Cary Christmas tree between 6-7pm. This festive night features actors, singers, and musicians from the community and is capped by the lighting of our Official Town of Cary Christmas Tree.

Here’s a list of other great things to do this Saturday in Downtown Cary:

12th Annual Gingerbread House Competition

Visit Downtown Cary as it is transformed into a walking gallery of amateur gingerbread houses. Local participants work hard to design, create, and display a gingerbread house that is yummy enough for an elf’s visit!  All houses will be on display in select downtown businesses on Saturday, December 3 with the winners being displayed all December long at the Cary Arts Center.

Santa’s Workshop

Herbert C. Young Center, 10am – 12:30pm

Children can enjoy a variety of craft stations and a visit with the white bearded guy from the North Pole! While at Santa’s Workshop, you can support the Cary Teen Council‘s food drive by sending each child with two non-perishable food items or a cash donation for admission. All proceeds will be donated to charity. There will be a 20-minute break at 11:30 a.m. so Santa can feed his reindeer.

Victorian Christmas at the Page-Walker

Page-Walker House, 3-6pm

Enjoy carriage rides, cookies and cider, an activity for kids, carolers, and more! The hotel will be decorated for the holidays.

Cary Players presents A Christmas Story

Cary Arts Center, 3-5pm and 7:30-9:30pm

Back by popular demand, Ralphie Parker’s quest to have a Red Rider air rifle under the Christmas tree sets the theme for this holiday favorite. Complete with Scut Farkas, Bumpus Hounds, a “major award” and a frozen flagpole this is a wonderful event for the entire family! Purchase tickets here.

Looking ahead to the following weekend (December 10th), don’t forget about the annual Cary Jaycees Christmas Parade from 2-4pm. There is more info here!
