The first day of November is widely recognized by Mariah Carey fans as the unofficial start to the holiday season. The holidays just wouldn’t be the same without her classic “All I Want for Christmas is You.”
In honor of Mariah’s impact, on November 1st of this year, Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht, Jr. issued a proclamation temporarily changing the spelling of Cary’s name to “Carey” for one day, in honor of Mariah Carey and her influence on the holiday season.
The mayor’s announcement was made on local radio station MIX 101.5 WRAL-FM’s morning show with Carey present, to which she responded “this is perfect,” and “I need to move there.”
If you weren’t aware of Carey Day this year, that’s ok! There’s still time to celebrate the holiday season and Mariah Carey at Downtown Cary Park’s newest event. Friday, November 22 at 7pm is your chance to embrace your inner Mariah Carey during “Mariah Careyoke”!
This event is the ultimate Mariah Carey-themed karaoke contest! Contestants will belt out Mariah Carey’s holiday hits (and some of her other works) for a chance to impress the judges—Mix 101.5 morning hosts Kyle, Bryan, and Sarah. The top performer wins a pair of tickets to see Mariah live in Raleigh on December 9!
