Our town sets aside time every year to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Called Dreamfest with the goal to celebrate that work and vision of Dr. King by bringing community together. The full slate of activities (sadly some were impacted by winter weather on Sunday the 16th) are available here.
As for Saturday the 15th, the silver screen of the Cary Theater shined with a pair of MLK-themed films, Selma and MLK/FBI.
Lani Simeona heads up Operations and Programs for the Cary Theater, and she says film screenings at the theater during Dreamfest change from year-to-year.
“We wanted to screen MLK/FBI, Selma and I am not your Negro (cancelled because of inclement weather) to reflect the life and work of Dr. King and the importance of the civil rights movment,” said Lani.
She said that she hopes film goes leave the theater feeling inspired and empowered.
