If you like Downtown Cary, adorable animals and fabulous fashion, allow me to introduce you to your new favorite Instagram account. Meet Georgina, your friendly neighborhood giraffe and the fashionable face of @carygiraffe.
She posts about her life living only a few blocks away from Downtown Cary Park, and much like Barbie, she has been everything from an Olympic track and field gold medalist to an autumnal queen. She’s even a mother, having given birth on July 3rd to a beautiful baby giraffe. Influencer, Mother and Fashion Icon, she’s a modern woman who proves you can truly have it all.
We were honored to have the opportunity to sit down for a chat with Georgina, and learned all about how she’s liking Downtown Cary, her iconic fashion sense, and how she got started posting as @carygiraffe:
How did you get to Downtown Cary?
“In December 2023, some of my friends from Downtown Cary made the journey to Pittsboro, North Carolina, to pick me up from a cool shop called French Connections. Prior to that, I came to NC all the way from Mexico! It’s been a long journey to my permanent home on East Park Street, but I’m so happy I ended up in the best town ever.”
What made you decide to start the @carygiraffe Instagram?
“Because I’m so fashionable, I decided to start an Instagram page so more people would get the chance to see and appreciate my seasonal outfits! I also hope to connect with more people in Downtown Cary so they know to swing by and visit me on the way to the Downtown Cary Park. I love visitors and making new friends!”
What is your favorite part of being in Downtown Cary?
“I have a few favorite things about Downtown Cary. First, the climate is very giraffe-friendly. It never gets too cold, which I appreciate! The people are very kind and welcoming. Plus, there’s always something fun to do in town — whether I trot down to the park for a drink at the Bark Bar, shop the Night Market, catch a film at The Cary Theater, share a fun night with friends at Pharmacy Bottle & Beverage, grab a slice at DiFara or a quadruple scoop at Fresh Ice Cream, I’m never bored!”
Do you have a favorite outfit you’ve worn?
“I’ve worn 12 different seasonal outfits since I arrived in Downtown Cary, and it’s tough to pick a favorite! I’d probably have to go with my Olympics outfit from this summer, though. As a three-time Olympic gold medalist in hurdles, high jump and equestrian, I was proud to represent Team USA in Paris this year. My fellow giraffes joined me on the podium, claiming the silver and bronze medals. So, no hard feelings. We shared in the friendly spirit of competition and I came out ahead.”
Do you have any fun facts about yourself?
“I’m 8 feet tall which makes me a bit undersized compared to your average giraffe, but what I lack in height I make up for in personal style. My favorite holiday is Halloween (just wait until you see my costume!). I have two canine siblings! I was named after my costumer’s (the human who I let live in my house) great grandmother.”
Anything else you’d like to add/mention?
“I love being in Downtown Cary! I change my outfits when the season, holiday or occasion calls for it. My main goals in life are to make my neighbors smile and to make life in Downtown Cary even more interesting. I would absolutely love for more friends (including kids and pets) to stop by and see me! Feel free to step into the yard to take photos with me and be sure to tag @carygiraffe on Instagram!”
