Legacy of Jazz: Ringing & Swinging

Vibraphonist Lionel Hampton joined clarinetist’s Benny Goodman’s iconic band in 1936, spending over 4 years touring the world with the King of Swing. From the famed Carnegie Hall concert in 1938 to the expansion of the group to a sextet, the sound of the clarinet and vibraphone leading together was unparalleled. Renowned vibraphonist Christian Tamburr is joined by special guest clarinetist Gregg Gelb as they swing through some of the most iconic Hamp and Goodman songbook.  Buy tickets here. Christian Tamburr  Christian Tamburr is an internationally renowned vibraphonist, pianist, composer and arranger with touring and performances in over 67 countries around the world. Downbeat Magazine recognized him with the “Outstanding Solo Jazz Performance” award and is a 5-Time “Critics Choice Top Rising Star” award recipient on vibraphone. He leads the critically acclaimed Christian Tamburr Quintet, which performs regularly venues such as at Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, The Newport Jazz Festival and venues throughout Asia, Europe and the UAE. Gregg Gelb Gregg Gelb began his jazz career in the ’80’s performing with the fine jazz group, GROUP SAX. The group included the group’s first leader and drummer, Peter Ingram, and featured the fine trumpeter and composer Ray Codrington and Rodney Marsh. Gelb is a recipient of the City of Raleigh Medal of the Arts, a Jazz Composers Award from the North Carolina Arts Council and four Regional Artist grants from the Fayetteville/Cumberland County Arts Council.

Agatha Christie’s “A Murder Is Announced”

An announcement in the local paper states the time and place when a murder is to occur in Miss Blacklock’s Victorian house. The victim is not one of the house’s occupants, but an unexpected and unknown visitor. What follows is a classic Agatha Christie puzzle of mixed motives, concealed identities, a determined Inspector, and the famous Miss Marple on hand to provide the final solution at some risk to herself in a dramatic confrontation just before the final curtain.
