Summer is coming up fast, and what’s better during the summertime heat than a nice cold scoop of homemade ice cream? Luckily, Downtown Cary has exactly what you’re looking for.
At Howdy Homemade Ice Cream, you can get some delicious ice cream while supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
According to Howdy, “We are on a relentless pursuit to create jobs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities using the power of smiles and amazing ice cream. While this is important to the Howdy culture country-wide, we take it a step further here in Cary, NC. As a non-profit Howdy Homemade Ice Cream location, we believe everyone has something special to offer. We’re committed to creating an environment where people of different abilities feel welcome, valued, and supported.”
Their ice cream is made fresh daily in their kitchen in Cary. They offer scoops of ice cream, as well as a build-your-own ice cream sandwich, milkshakes, ice cream floats, and ice cream pints.
We stopped by to sample some scoops of their most popular flavors!
Chocolate As All Get Out
As the name suggests, this is the ice cream of choice for any chocolate lover! It has a chocolate base and is packed with fudgy chocolate flakes.
Strawberry
Strawberry ice cream is a summertime classic. This version was super fresh and very tasty! Howdy makes their ice cream fresh daily and you can really taste that extra effort in their strawberry flavor.
Mint Chocolate Chips
The refreshing mint ice cream with the crunchy chocolate chips makes this flavor the perfect treat to have on a hot day. If you are a fan of the best Cook Out milkshake flavor (Oreo mint!) you will definitely be a fan of this.
Cookie Nom’ster
This flavor combines blue sweet cream ice cream with Oreo cookie crumbles. Cookie Nom’ster is like a more fun version of cookies and cream ice cream, and just like Cookie Monster himself, we couldn’t stop eating this scoop!
Theres plenty of fun and unique flavors at Howdy that we didn’t get the chance to try. Next time we stop by, we will definitely be trying their Dr. Pepper Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Velvet Peanut Butter Cup flavors! Howdy Homemade Ice Cream is located at 370 S Walker St #123 and is open Tuesday – Sunday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
