Downtown Cary’s Best of the Weekend: October 2 – 8

Welcome, October! Downtown Cary is celebrating the first week of October with heaping portion of relaxing outdoor activities. Listen to live music, sitting on the rustic porch at Cotton House Craft Brewers with a hard cider in your hand. Wander through the Cary Downtown Farmer’s Market in search of fresh Autumn produce and locally-made artistic treasures. Take in some morning yoga. And don’t miss the new release party for Acorn Brown Ale at Jordan Lake Brewing Company — they’ll have food trucks, music, and tons of giveaways!

Wednesday, October 2

  • Wednesday Night Gravel Ride at Cotton House Craft Brewers – 6-8 p.m. Take an off-roading bicycling adventure, starting at Cotton House Craft Brewers and traveling to Umstead Park. Enjoy delicious food and drinks, beautiful scenery, and awesome company.
  • Pickin’ on the Patio at Jordan Lake Brewing Company – 7-9 p.m. Bring your own guitar, ukelele, banjo, or other acoustic instrument for a round of pickin’ and grinnin’ on the comfortable covered patio at Jordan Lake Brewing Company. Join the jam session, or just come listen and sip a craft beer. Dogs are welcome!

Friday, October 4

  • Acorn Brown Ale Release Party and Nova Anglia NEIPA at Jordan Lake Brewing Company – 6-10 p.m. Come celebrate the release of two new cans — Nova Anglia NEIPA and Acorn Brown Ale!  Enjoy food from The Paddy Wagon, a raffle with gifts from local companies like Brixx Pizza, Alamo Drafthouse, Tribeca Tavern, Crosstown Pub & Grill, Chatham Hill Winery, Escazu Chocolates, and more! Plus, enjoy live music from Ari Pappalardo.

Saturday, October 5

  • Downtown Cary Farmer’s Market, 8 a.m.-noon. Enjoy fresh seasonal produce from local farmers, bluegrass music on the front porch of the Ivey-Ellington house, and tables from local vendors. Kids can enjoy the kid’s table with activities, and well-behaved dogs are welcome! 
  • Cary Dog Days at Fred G. Bond Metro Park – 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Every dog has its day! Come enjoy a beautiful Fall afternoon with your best furry friend. Bring a picnic blanket and lunch to enjoy in the field, check out the Cary Teen Council’s dog wash, and visit the microchip and rabies shot clinic. Plus, visit all the dog-friendly vendors, and enjoy the ONE day every year Bond Park allows dogs to go out on the lake on boats!

Sunday, October 6

  • Paint the Page! at Page-Walker Arts & History Center – 1-5 p.m. The Young Friends of the Page-Walker invite teens ages 13 to 18 to paint, draw or sketch their inspired impression of Cary’s historic railroad hotel that now serves as Cary’s Page-Walker Arts & History Center. Enjoy a tour of the beautiful historic hotel and gardens, then set up your easels and canvases for an afternoon of painting. On October 13, an awards ceremony will give out prizes for the best paintings! Please register by October 2.
  • Create Autumn Cookies at Once in a Blue Moon Bakery – 1-4 p.m. Learn to decorate cookies like a pro! You’ll learn how to outline and flood cookies with royal icing, as well as use stencils and spray color to take your cookies to the next level. All supplies are included. Finished cookies are yours to take home and enjoy! Suitable for ages 13 and up. Cost $59.
  • Yoga and Beer at Bond Brothers Beer Company – 11 a.m.-noon. Start your Sunday with vinyasa flow, followed by craft beer and food from the Burger 21 food truck. Suggested $5 donation, which does not include beer and food.
  • Live Music with Garland Mason at Cotton House Craft Brewers – 4-6 p.m. Relax on the deck with mimosas, wine, craft beer, and cider. Plus, enjoy the local food truck (TBD). The rustic wooden deck is a perfect place to spend an autumn afternoon. Bring your dog along if you like!

Tuesday, October 8

  • Run Club at Bond Brothers Beer Company – 6:30 p.m. Cheers to your health! Take a run around the beautiful streets of Downtown Cary, then celebrate with craft beer!
