National Small Business Week is upon us and it’s a time to recognize the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners.
This year it runs from Sunday April 30th through Saturday May 6th, and we need look no further than our beautiful Downtown Cary for small business owners, leaders, entrepreneurs and community members!
Did you know that more than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year? That’s pretty cool, and we know there are plenty of great small businesses here in our backyard.
As part of #smallbusinessweek the Downtown Cary Blog took the opportunity to highlight a few downtown small businesses.
Before that, a quick reminder that we have a Downtown Cary directory set up on our website, and if your business is missing from that list, just let us know here.
Betty Haskell and Rebecca Ennis, owners of The Perfect Piece have been providing unique consignment furniture and accessories in downtown for 12-years.
“Business has been steady over those years,” says Betty, “but the increase in foot traffic has definitely made a difference.”
The Perfect Piece is celebrating Small Business Week by using this opportunity to swap out their Spring collection with new “Goin Coastal” Summer pieces, and placing the outgoing items on a red tag sale.
“We swap items five times a year and that keeps our inventory fresh and our regulars coming back.” adds Rebbecca.
Also serving Downtown Cary for 12-years, Sandra Reynolds owner of the specialty food store Peak Olive Oil Company, who knows the importance of appreciating her long-time customers but welcoming those moving to the area.
“Everyday someone new comes in. We meet a lot of people retiring down here.”
Sandra admits, she learns a lot from her customers. “They will come in and tell me about a dish they made using our products, or a combination they created. I’ve become a better cook because of them”
Down a ways on Chatham St the folks at Brew Coffee Bar are also getting into the #shoplocal spirit.
Alina Fortunato, lead barista says that they love to partner with other local downtown business, and make sure they only use local vendors for everything they offer.
“The collaboration creates a more community-oriented feel.” says Alina “We love our regulars, but growth has been insane because of all the new things happening downtown.
So, whether it’s National Small Business Week, some other Shop Local event, or just a random Tuesday, we invite you to come downtown and support our businesses and their employees.
Please check out our listing of all downtown businesses in our directory (https://downtowncarync.org/all-listings/) and if you are a business owner currently not listed, please let us know at https://downtowncarync.org/about/contact/.
