The Downtown Cary community was saddened by the closing of Ashworth Drugs back in February of 2024. The pharmacy and soda fountain opened in 1957 and was a staple of the community. Luckily, the Ashworth building looks like it will be in good hands.
Blue Moon Bakery & Cafe is planning on moving to the building, which is 1,000 square feet larger than the current bakery location. If all goes according to plan, the new Blue Moon will open this summer.

According to a Triangle Business Journal article covering the bakery’s move, the change in location will come with some new menu additions.
“In addition to its menu of desserts and coffee, Blue Moon will be adding breakfast and lunch at its new home: house-made soups, focaccia bread, biscuits baked every few hours and house-made jam flights, quiches, sandwiches, salads and more.”

Blue Moon owner Lily Reed is also committed to preserving the soda fountain and incorporating it into Blue Moon’s offerings.
Blue Moon owner Lily Reed is excited to continue Ashworth’s legacy downtown.
“We’re really looking forward to having a gathering place like Ashworth’s was, and honoring that legacy and also giving the bakery a new spin.”
