Veteran Owned Riley Contracting
Located at 219 E. Chatham (right next to Bond Brothers, Sidebar and all the others) is Riley Contracting Group, a Veteran Owned Commercial Contractor. The owner is Cal Riley, a Veteran of the US Army with multiple deployments during his career. Cal served as an Officer in the Infantry and Special Operations.
“I grew up here, and after serving my time in the military, I sort of got back into the family business,” said Riley.
Riley Contracting Group, “specializes in commercial renovations, ground up construction, additions and remodeling for industries including healthcare, higher education, life sciences, office, industrial and municipal.”
Service and commitment to their community is important for Cal, his family and his team at Riley Contracting. Cal and his wife Amy have two kids, Liam (7) and Jane (3). Their youngest, Jane, has down syndrome, and it’s become an important part of their life, including efforts to create a more inclusive work environment at their business.
“We partnered with Gigi’s Playhouse of Raleigh, and they brought us the light of our office, Sophie, she’s our administrative assistant,” said Cal.
“Sophie has so much to give, it’s amazing, and when she’s in the office, its usually the best day of the week.”
Cal and his team are prepping to be part of the build-out for Gigi’s new location, right here in downtown Cary (we will cover that more in the future).
As for Veterans Day, Cal says he’ll spend time with family call call to check-in on some of his fellow Veterans.
Thank you, Cal, for your service!
A Salute from Scratch
Scratch Kitchen and Taproom is saying “thank you” the best way they know how. They are offering a meal and a beer on them to all veterans, including active duty military on Veterans Day. It’s pretty simple, just show your server your military ID and they will have a special Veterans Day menu for you. What an incredible gesture from Scratch!
Taking Time to Honor Veterans at Veterans Freedom Park
Just north of downtown is Veterans Freedom Park (located at 1517 N Harrison Ave). The Veterans Day observance will feature speakers, including Master Chief Curtis R. Leary and Gunnery Sergeant Jeffrey Sherman. More information is available here. A special Field of Flags will be placed at Veterans Freedom Park all week long in honor of those that have bravely served in the armed forces.
