Sean Ryan and Paul Wasmund has been buddies for years, and on a trip to London hatched an idea that’s now taking shape as one of Downtown Cary’s newest neighbors. Meet The Albatross, a new spot that offers a unique experience combining food, drink, and a pair of state-of-the-art golf simulators.
Sean and his mom have been in the service industry in Downtown Cary, running the efforts at neighboring Crosstown Pub (funny enough The Albatross is located in the old Crosstown Pub residence), and Paul is no stranger to downtown having spent time brewing over at Bond Brothers.
“I’ve grown up in the industry, from day one and done about every single job you can in service, so now I’m excited to dive into a great new business with a great friend,” said Sean.
“In my opinion, right now, everybody in Downtown Cary is firing on all cylinders,” said Paul.
“We’re excited to be part of that by bringing this new and unique experience to downtown. We wanted to be able to attack people off the street that have never played golf, but still want to come in and get a cocktail and some food,” added Sean.
Both Sean and Paul admitted it’s also a great spot for the avid golfer, saying they’ve already shaved a few strokes off their games by hitting the bay.
The idea of their food is to be able to get something quick, like you’re at the turn on the course, but good quality in the form of gourmet hotdogs and smash burgers and beverages. As for the drink, expect beers on tap, drinks by the glass, including high end products and fun, tasty cocktails on the menu.
You can tell that the guys are excited about the new venture.
“I think this is something that not only Cary will embrace, so we’re really excited for the future. We looked at franchises as a potential and just couldn’t find what we were looking for, so we opened our own with our own brand. We’re ready to show off The Albatross,” added Paul.
You can see what they’re up to over at https://www.thealbatrossnc.com or on their Instagram. Hitting in the bay, which includes a bunch of fun games, is available by reservation on their website.
Lastly, the golf experience has to be top notch, or else the place might be a shank.
“We did our market research and looked at a few golf simulators and there was a clear winner, and that’s Trackman. If you’re watching a PGA event, Trackman is what they use. It’s incredibly accurate and on top of that is has a bunch of mini games for the golfer, non-golfer, and all looking to have some fun,” added Paul.
