The GLOW of a Heart Beat, and more!

It’s becoming an annual tradition in Downtown Cary, a series of light installations that brighten up the evening and night sky right around the state of the new year, known as GLOW.

We introduced you to local artists and creators a year ago that participated, and there is more happening again this year.

Be on the lookout as these art pieces of light and innovative technology pop up in various locations along Academy Street! We ran into a local architect, Kurt Wood, as he and his team were building the Heart Beat piece that will live on the corner of Academy and Chatham Street.

Kurt was kind enough to tell us all about the project in this Instagram Reel:

There are other pieces like Kurt’s as well, with more information available on the Town of Cary website.

In 2022, we introduced you to Gowri Savoor, an artist who created an engaging experience for folks in town to build their own lanterns. It was really cool and culminated in the first Under the Silver Moon Lantern Parade. The event is back in 2023 and will be the evening of January 14th.

“Last year the parade was small but spectacular. It was great to reflect back and realize that events like this are so important for the community. Bringing art, light and music to our streets is a magical experience for everyone. We also learned that the lantern workshop program is an integral part of the process—gathering together to learn new skills, make new friends, and work together to build something beautiful is really very special. We intend to maintain that,” said Gowri.

She’s excite to be back this year to light up the night sky in Cary, “This year over 100 community members came to workshops to build their own lanterns. Artists built giant structures including a fish, a dog, a moon and even a Nintendo Gameboy to spearhead the parade—the hard work and creativity will be clear to see. We’re also excited for the Bulltown Strutters to lead our parade, the One Tribe Rhythms drum circle finale, and Caroleeena’s Circle of Joy fiery entertainment. The GLOW festival sculptures will be stunning too. It’s going to be a magical evening!”
