22nd SAS Championship Swings Through Cary

For (or is it fore?) the 22nd year, the SAS Championship has returned to the courses of Prestonwood Country Club in Cary.

Naturally, that means a buzz around town as the world’s best from the Champions Tour swing the sticks in Cary this week. Former PGA Tour winner, and major champion, Justin Leonard is here for the first time, and the list of other players includes BIG NAMES! Here’s the field!

In addition to the pros, friends from our community (and beyond) make up a huge part of the activities this week, and that’s even before tournament play starts on Friday.

The event might be just outside what we consider “downtown,” but there’s plenty of DTC flare happening out at the course. Maybe you remember when this #CaryNC live art was created at Lazy Daze! It now has a prime spot at Prestonwood for the week.

We spotted Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht playing in the Wednesday Pro-Am with other Town of Cary folks. On Wednesday evening members of the SAS golf community hit the town for a “dine-about,” and our friends at Hank’s Downtown Dive were a stop on the list.

We’ll keep our eyes open for other Downtown Cary stories and share them on our Instagram account from the tournament this week.
